ARDA’s International Side: ARDA World 2012
In April 2012, ARDA hosted its annual convention—dubbed ARDA World for the first time. The convention featured a strong international presence, going “global” with internationally-focused sessions and events.
Sessions included how to do business in international markets, similarities and differences in sales practices across the globe, and findings from ARDA’s international industry study—the first international research in a decade. In addition, ARDA hosted an international reception for global attendees, representing over 35 countries.
ARDA also opened its general session to key international members from Europe, Asia, South Africa, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico, who are all developing and doing business in those regions. These international members shared their thoughts on the future of vacation ownership around the world.
Spain Adopts New Timeshare Directive
On March 16, 2012 the Spanish government passed the European Timeshare Directive into national law. The law, the “ Ley de Contratos de aprovechamiento por turno de bienes de uso turístico, de adquisición de productos vacacionales de larga duración, de reventa y de intercambio," comes into force the day following its publication in the Official State Bulletin (possibly the week commencing March 19) and all timeshare companies will need to ensure they are in full compliance by this date.
ARDA Hosts "Brazil Breakfast"
In February 2012, ARDA hosted a breakfast in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in cooperation with VidaImobilaria magazine and the real estate development agency ADIT Brasil, for hospitality and investment industry executives interested in learning more about timesharing, fractional ownership, and the 2012 ARDA World Convention.
“The interest in our industry from Brazil was especially apparent after the 2011 ARDA Convention,” notes Bob Craycraft, ARDA’s Vice President of Industry Relations, who coordinated the event. “For the first time, our largest national group of non-North American attendees was from Brazil, and our Brazil-focused educational session was one of our most popular.”
American Resort Development Association and European Resort Development Organization Announce New Marketing Alliance
ARDA welcomes a new cooperative working alliance with its European-based sister organization, the Resort Development Organisation (RDO), following approval by both Boards of Directors. Each association retains its own identity, but collectively, the associations seek to cooperate on issues of common concern in order to advance the growth of the timeshare industry worldwide, the interests of their members, and the consumers they serve.
