Republicans retained control of Alaska’s Governor’s chair and both house of the legislature in 2010. Sean Parnell assumed the Governorship in 2009 and was elected to serve a full term in 2010. Republicans also increased their majority in the Alaska House by two seats and now hold a 24 -16 margin. The partisan division of the Senate remained unchanged at 10 -10, with Republicans holding the tiebreaking vote.

Sen. Gary Stevens of Kodiak will serve as Senate President with Sen. Kevin Meyer as Majority Leader and Sen. Charlie Huggins as Minority Leader. The House is led by Speaker Mike Chanault of Kenai with Alan Austermanas Majority Leader and Beth Kerttula as Minority Leader. The Alaska Legislative Session convenes on January 16, 2012.
