Republicans won all Arizona state offices in 2010 with the election of Governor Jan Brewer. Republicans in the Arizona House increased their margin to a 40-20 hold.Rep. Andy Tobin is the new Speaker of the House, with Rep. Steve Court as House Majority Leader. Former House Democratic Whip Chad Campbell will serve as the Democratic Leader.

In the Senate, the Republicans hold the 21-9 majority. Sen. Russell Pearce of Mesa continues to hold the seat of Senate President with Sen. Andy Biggs as Majority Leader and Sen. David Schapira as Minority Leader.  The Arizona legislature convenes on January 9, 2012.

Arizona Governor Signs HB 2195

HB 2195, sponsored by Rep. Jim Weiers, that would permit timeshare developers to use an expedited filing process for amendments to their Arizona registrations unanimously passed the Senate on March 22.  Governor Jan Brewer signed the bill into law on March 27 and it will take effect in mid-July 2012.

Despite a relatively short legislative session in 2011, Arizona still considered its share of controversial bills, although fortunately, few had significant impact on the timeshare industry or timeshare owners associations.

Arizona Timeshare HOAs Benefit from Finder Fee Change in SB 1219

Developers in many states, including Arizona, are permitted to pay finder fees (referral fees) to a timeshare owner at their resort when that owner refers a friend or relative who might be interested in buying
