Democrat Jack Markell serves as Governor of Delaware following his election in 2009. The Democrats also maintained a 14 – 7 majority in the Senate despite losing two seats. House Democrats extended their majority to 26 – 15.

The Senate is led by President Pro Tem Anthony DeLuca with Sen. Patricia Blevins as Majority Leader and Sen. F. Gary Simpson as Minority Leader. The House is led by Speaker Robert Gilligan with Rep. Peter Schwartzkopf as Majority Leader and Rep. Gregory Lavelle as Minority Leader. The Delaware Legislative Session reconvenes January 10, 2012.
