Georgia

Republicans swept elections for statewide offices in Georgia and extended majorities in both houses of the Legislature in 2010. In addition to the election of former Congressman Nathan Deal as Governor, Republicans were elected to positions including Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle and Attorney General Sam Olens. Republicans now hold a 34 – 20 advantage in the Senate with two seats vacant and a 114 – 63 edge in the House, again, with two seats vacant.
The Senate is led by President Pro Temp Tommie Williams and the House is led by Speaker David Ralston. The Georgia General Assembly reconvenes January 9, 2012.
