The Timeshare Industry Today

First Word
President/CEO Jason Gamel
As we begin to see 2020 in our rearview mirror and look forward to 2021, we at ARDA have many reasons to be thankful. We are grateful for our families, our co-workers, and indeed grateful for all of our members, many of whom we call friends. While this has undoubtedly been a trying year, it has shown our product's continued resiliency, as well as the resiliency of our member companies, owners, and guests. As we look to a brighter future, we wish you a healthy and Happy Thanksgiving.
Events Update
On October 29, 2020 we kicked off our ARDA Live Webinar Series with an engaging conversation on Resort Leadership and Hospitality Today. Over 300 attendees heard from Jason Gamel, Stephanie Sobek Butera, Mark Nuzzo, and Mark Waltrip about the challenges and triumphs of operating resorts and getting owners back to vacations during the pandemic. Missed it?
Mark your calendars for the next ARDA Live Series on Tuesday December 8th at 2 pm, when we’ll dig deep into hospitality trends with a review of the Back to Normal Travel Barometer Study, sponsored by the ARDA International Foundation. This bi-monthly consumer sentiment study focuses on travel and what it will take to get “Back to Normal”. Registration details coming soon.

Federal and State Legislation
In the wake of the 2020 elections, the one thing we know for certain is that there will be a lot of newly elected first-time legislators around the country. For your government affairs team, that usually means hitting the road to tell them about timeshare and all of the great work we do on behalf of the industry and owners. It’s something we look forward to because we really do have a lot to talk about. Most have no idea that we are a $10.2 billion sector of the lodging industry with almost 1,600 resorts around the country, and oftentimes an important economic driver in their very own districts. As questions come up from their colleagues or from constituents, they will know they can count on us to help.
It looks like COVID-19 will delay many of those face-to-face meetings this year, but the effort is still critical to our program of work. That’s why we are excited about the launch of our all new digital legislative advocacy piece that will provide the foundational knowledge about ARDA and ARDA-ROC, the industry at large and provide links if they want to learn more about the timeshare industry in their state. We will be executing on our plan over the next several weeks to get this in front of every new legislator around the country and also to those that already know us well.
