Greetings from our ARDA Office in Washington, DC. I hope this June newsletter finds you enjoying the activities and experiences that summer brings to our lives personally and professionally. The summer vacation season welcomes our owners and guests to resorts at record pace and our industry reports brisk occupancies across the nation. The return to travel and positive business results resonate in the newly released AIF State of the Industry Market Research Report-2022 Edition. For your review, we’ve included an infographic to highlight the study and statistics. In celebration of your membership benefits, please enjoy your Complimentary Access to the Executive Summary.
I also hope you’ll enjoy reading the focus and activities transpiring on the Hill with an endless agenda for Congress. Rest assured that our federal and state affairs teams are busy staying at the forefront of advocacy issues and business items that affect, connect and protect our timeshare industry. For those of you who are recognized in our VIP Program, the team and I look forward to seeing you for thought leadership and business discussions at our annual VIP Summer Meeting less than 6 weeks away in Orlando at the Waldorf Astoria on July 28th and 29th. There is still time to register today.

Congressional Summer Sprint
With a few short weeks and even shorter Congressional Voting Days left until the August recess, Congress has a heavy agenda. Let’s take a peek inside the halls of Congress to see what is on the horizon as they move closer to the November mid-term elections.
Summer Floor Agenda in the U.S. House of Representatives: With six legislative weeks until the August recess, the House is planning a lot of action. Here are a few items that are in the on-deck circle for Floor consideration in June:
Data Privacy: On Friday, House Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Ranking Member Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Senate Commerce Ranking Member Roger Wicker (R-MS) announced the framework for a deal on privacy legislation. Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell (D-WA), who has drafted her own data privacy bill, withdrew from negotiations because she supports more protections on arbitration provisions to cover nearly all claims. The discussion draft text of the American Data Privacy and Protection Act, which builds off Cantwell and Wicker’s negotiations, includes federal preemption, with limited exceptions, including for the Illinois Biometric and Genetic Information Privacy Acts and California’s private right of action; a ban on forced arbitration in cases involving minors; and a private right of action, which would begin 4 years after the date of enactment. Coalition support
ARDA’s Federal Affairs Team recently joined on as members of the US Travel Association’s newly created Sustainable Travel Coalition. We look forward to working together with our colleagues in the travel community to develop strategies and advance policies to enable a more sustainable future and ensure that the many resources and beautiful corners of our country are preserved for generations to come.
The Coalition’s efforts will showcase innovative practices of its members in the sustainability space as well as defend against harmful policies that would slow progress toward sustainability goals or penalize the industry without progress
