First Word
President & CEO Jason Gamel
The holidays are always a special time here at ARDA. It is a time for us to reflect on the past year and celebrate the industry’s accomplishments. It is a time to allow ourselves a minute to pause and reflect without thinking about the next goal we want to achieve. I am very proud of what the ARDA Staff has accomplished, including a great ARDA member experience, meetings that have exceeded expectations, and a government relations program that has continued to protect the timeshare industry and owners alike at the local, state, and federal levels. And taking a quick peek ahead to 2023, it looks like the team is poised to deliver outstanding results again.
But we will now enjoy this time of year and celebrate with friends and loved ones. With that in mind, on behalf of the entire ARDA Staff, I wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and a prosperous New Year!
![]() Follow ARDA For The Latest Industry NewsIt’s hard to believe that our ARDA 360 campaign launched just 12 short months ago. In that time, we have promoted a steady drumbeat of content of positive news about the timeshare industry featuring YOUR stories. And we’re just getting started. We are gaining traction on nation-wide PR efforts through our work with Finn Partners and have been hard at work with Skift finalizing the first article of our sponsorship with them. Federal and State Legislation
The work of the LPC Team advocating for the industry sometimes takes us into the courtroom. In the last few weeks, ARDA and ARDA-ROC offered amicus briefs supporting two important industry issues making their way through the courts. The first was in the U.S. Supreme Court supporting the defendant’s certiorari petition in Acheson Hotels LLC v. Laufer. ARDA signed onto the brief along with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Home Builders, and the International Council of Shopping Centers. You can read more about that effort here.
Next, we filed amicus briefs in two cases advancing through the Tennessee Courts. They support two timeshare homeowners’ associations in their effort against the Sevier County Assessor of Property. In 2016 the Sevier County Assessor began arbitrarily changing the property tax classification of timeshare resorts from residential to commercial. This case is now in the Tennessee Court of Appeals following favorable rulings for the associations by the Assessment Appeals Commission and Chancery Court.
Lastly, we wish you and yours a healthy, happy, and peaceful holiday season and look forward to doing great things together in the coming New Year.
