ARDA Inside Look - Issue 34
President & CEO Jason Gamel
Happy New Year, and welcome to the first 2023 edition of the Inside Look! The ARDA staff has hit the ground running in all aspects of our business. Membership renewals are underway, and so is the work of the Federal and State Government Affairs team, as legislatures from coast to coast have kicked off and gotten to work. ARDA’s meeting schedule kicks off with the always-popular ARDA-WIN meeting in Orlando this week. This year, like the others before it, will see record-breaking attendance and a slate of top-notch speakers and panelists (including some local political leaders) sharing experiences and providing professional development for all in attendance.
Finally, the ARDA Annual Conference is right around the corner. Please keep an eye out for registration information, as the room block at the Hilton Convention Center in Orlando will sell out fast.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the Inside Look, and we hope to see many of you this week in Orlando!
This year, Micro Sessions are added to ARDA’s robust event programming and we invite you to audition! This new format offers attendees a variety of business insights, industry topics and professional expertise in “mini presentation” style 10-minute sessions. Do you have a topic in mind?
Delivered in hourly blocks of time, and offered in between General Sessions and Power Session scheduling, this quick and effective style is a great compliment to our conference agenda. If selected, your Micro Session will share the stage with a variety of speakers, presentations, and formats. We are looking to include interesting interviews, interactive audience styles, timeshare stories and over-all education. ARDA anticipates attendance of approximately 200 in this setting. Micro Sessions aim to leave the audience with new perspectives, inspiration, and high value industry conversations to be remembered.
Your video audition must start with your name, title, member organization and topic, followed by a 2 minute synopsis of your topic. Show us why your content and session should be included this year! Send all proposals to email@example.com by February 20th. The 5 best pitches will make it into our line up! All participants will be informed by March 1.
New Research Opportunity
After a 3-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, the ARDA International Foundation (AIF) is expected to update the Shared Vacation Ownership Compensation Study in the second quarter of 2023 focusing on not only the sales and marketing but also the resort operation positions. The former had been the focus of the previous two versions of the study. The expansion of the study scope makes both timeshare developing companies as well as the resort management companies eligible to participate. The results of the study are expected to provide the industry with much needed data on employee compensation levels in the midst of labor shortages facing the travel and hospitality industry in general and the rising labor cost. To learn more about how to participate in the study and receive the final report, please contact Lan Wang at firstname.lastname@example.org.

January was a busy month for our PR Efforts. ARDA Sponsored Skift MegaTrends in NYC early in the month where representatives from Marriott Vacations Worldwide, Hilton Grand Vacations and Travel + Leisure joined some of the ARDA Team to learn about the upcoming trends in the travel and hospitality industry. Late in the month, Jason was back in NYC engaging over 20 reporters at the IMM Travel Conference.

Ready, Set…Go! The 2023 legislative season is underway in all the key timeshare states except for Florida, which gets a late start this year in March. Even in Florida, bills are being filed for the team to review. At this point, we have looked at thousands of pieces of legislation to assess the impact on the industry or owners. We have uncovered everything from new tax measures, to privacy bills, to bans on single-use plastics in timeshare resorts. Please visit the Homepage | ARDA and Home | Resort Owners' Coalition (arda-roc.org) websites and view our Issue Maps to look at the bills we are engaged on.
Our 2023 advocacy plan also includes an aggressive slate of proactive efforts, which means bills that ARDA and ARDA-ROC drafted, secured sponsors for, and will shepherd through the legislative process. Those state efforts include Georgia, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Hawaii, where we have three ARDA bills.
In the US Congress, now that the committee assignments have been finalized, ARDA will begin to reach out to new Members on important industry committees to better educate them about the timeshare industry and our overall economic impact on their state and local communities within their Congressional districts. Also, several regulatory rules are being proposed by the FTC and CFPB that are of industry importance. More to come as we meet with LPC members to evaluate the proposed rules and prepare an industry response.
For more information on the LPC and how to get involved in legislative advocacy, please visit the ARDA website or contact any team member.
#LMT Statue Engaged Owners and Attendees!
The Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions was a great location for a life size LMT statue this month! The sculpture engaged athletes, owners, and attendees from across the nation who posted and shared great pics on the Love My Timeshare social channels!
