2:30pm - 4:00pm General Session: Women Lifting Women: Women in Leadership Training
Facilitators:
Susan Apgood and Anjali Varma. Susan and Anjali are professors at the American University Kogod School of Business, where they developed and instruct the award-winning course Women in Organizational Leadership. Both women are entrepreneurs, seasoned marketers, and business coaches that specialize in women’s leadership.
Session Description:
While leadership is key to organizational success, women are not always equally represented. Women tend to rise to middle management and then halt being promoted, with even fewer representing on boards and as members of the C-suite. This workshop highlights the severity of gender inequality in the workplace, the negative implications for business, the challenges and barriers that women leaders face and offers tools that can be integrated immediately to overcome these barriers while proposing strategies on how men can serve as allies and provides recommendations on how organizations can support women leaders to make lasting change.
Participants will better understand the obstacles facing women leaders, including the double bind, the confidence gap, and challenges related to negotiation and communication. Participants will also learn about descriptive and prescriptive bias and strategies to overcome these common challenges. The presentation will create a safe space for open and honest dialogue about these critical issues.
4:00pm - 4:30pm Closing Remarks and Meeting Wrap Up
