Great Eastern Resort Corporation Donates Land for Construction of New Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management Station
Charlottesville, Va. – (June 25, 2024) – Great Eastern Resort Corporation, owner of Massanutten Resort in Rockingham County, Virginia near Harrisonburg, today announced the approval of a land donation to Rockingham County for the construction and operation of a year-round fire, rescue and emergency management station at Massanutten Resort. The resort does not anticipate the construction of the station for several years, and there is no immediate obligation for the county to proceed with its development.
"Massanutten Resort is committed to contributing to the safety of our community,” says Steve Krohn, president and chief operating officer of Great Eastern Resort Corporation. “This new station will enhance emergency response capabilities and help to create a safer environment for everyone in the area. We’re thrilled to have been able to donate the land to make this project possible."
Located at the corner of Colo Road and Massanutten Drive, near Painters Pond and the Family Adventure Park, the fire rescue and emergency management station will serve Massanutten Resort, and the residential areas of the Massanutten Property Owners Association which were developed in the early 1970’s, the new 55+ Active Adult Community and the Massanutten Station Residential Area. The strategic location of the station will help ensure rapid response times and improved safety for both residents and resort guests.
Because the facility will be adjacent to resort operations and accommodations, the Resort will work with the County to minimize neighborhood disruption on an ongoing basis.
“As Massanutten Resort continues to grow and attract more visitors, the new fire, rescue, and emergency management station represents a significant step in enhancing the overall safety infrastructure of the region,” said Krohn. “We’re proud to be able to support the well-being of the community through this donation.”
