Q: How do you celebrate Pride month, and what does it mean to you?
A: I celebrate in June and in August. August is when Austin, Texas hosts its pride festivities. During those months, I visit LGBTQIA+ owned establishments more than I normally would. It allows me to meet different people and feel happy. I also try to read a new book or watch a movie to be more educated about the past.
Q: What makes you proud to be part of your company during Pride Month?
A: The visibility the company provides to be who you want without judgement and being able to be a part of a DRG that is committed to activities.
Q: If you could share one message with the next generation of LGBTQIA+ professionals, what would it be?
A: You are more than your sexual preferences and are just as capable as any other person in the room, or more!
Q: Can you share a time when your workplace actively supported LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and what impact that had?
A: Since Club Wyndham Austin opened in 2018, we have participated in Austin Pride’s Parade and Festival. Leadership may have changed over the years but the commitment to participating in this as a location has never wavered. The impact is tenfold allowing associates from different departments to get to know each other and feel love while having fun.
Q: What gives you hope for the future of LGBTQIA+ inclusion in our industry?
A: What gives me hope is the courage the Gen Z/Gen Alpha groups have being comfortable to be who they are and not feel like they must fit into the stereotypes of the past.
