February 1 – February 28 is Black History Month, and we’re celebrating the remarkable contributions of individuals in our industry. Learn more about their inspiring stories and insights by reading below.

Q: What does Black History Month mean to you?

A: Black History Month reminds me of the pioneers whose sacrifices created opportunities for my children and me. I see Black history reflected in my family every day. After 13 years at Sheraton Vistana Resort, I’m proud to show what’s possible. Our skin color isn’t a hindrance — it’s part of our uniqueness and greatness.

Q: Who are your biggest inspirations throughout Black history, and why?

A: My biggest inspiration is Michelle Obama. She never stood in her husband’s shadow — she stood beside him, supporting him while forging her own path. Through her writings, leadership, and intelligence, she’s inspired countless people. I believe she’d be celebrated for her accomplishments even without being First Lady. To me, she’s truly a superwoman.

Q: What advice would you give to young Black professionals interested in following a similar career path?

A: I would encourage them to understand that hospitality exists in everyone, but true success comes from having a genuine attitude of service. Be honest, determined, and willing to help others. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone — new experiences can be incredibly valuable, even if you eventually discover they’re not for you.
