Q: Can you share about your cultural identity?

A: I was born in Colombia and came to the U.S. at a young age, but my mother made sure I stayed connected to my roots. Through her stories, the arepas she cooked, and her love for music like the cumbia and vallenato, I grew up with a strong sense of Colombian culture. Today, I pass those traditions forward to my own family, following my mother’s recipes that I now get to share with my daughter and my grandchildren to keeping our heritage alive.

Q: What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you, and how has your heritage shaped who you are today?

A: For me, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor my mother, a single parent who raised four children with love, strength, and faith. Despite limited resources, she worked tirelessly and taught us perseverance, gratitude, and pride in who we are. Her Christian values and her passion for Colombian traditions shaped me into someone who values family, faith, and community.

Q: What advice (personal or professional) would you give to other Latinx professionals?

A: See your heritage as a strength. The resilience, adaptability, and creativity passed down to us are powerful tools for leadership and success. Be proud of your heritage, embrace your authentic self, and remember that your journey opens doors for those who come after you.

Q: What impact has your heritage had on you and your career journey?

A: My Colombian roots and my mother’s example have shaped every part of who I am. She showed me hard work, determination, and the importance of faith and integrity. Her love for music and food kept me proud of my culture, while her values guide how I lead with empathy and resilience in my career. My heritage has been both my anchor and my inspiration.
